Auf dem ersten Cover steht oben "Soon To Be A Major Television Event". Wurde das Buch etwa verfilmt?

Die erste Auflage (erstes Cover) wurde am 30. August 1997 veröffentlicht.

Auf der Rückseite steht:

He was a legend in his own time-a performer that held the generations captive. Renouned world-wide, the world was thrown into shock when it learned that his life had tragically ended more than 20 years ago on a hot August day.

While the world reeled in shock, and thousands of grieving fans mourned the loss of Elvis Presley, one man was thrust to the foreground of what would become this century's most infamous entertainment funeral.

Memphis Funeral Director Robert Kendall was appointed to handle the Presley funeral because he had worked with the Presley family on previous occassions--however, nothing could prepare him for the monstrous task that would lie ahead in coordinating a funeral of Elvis Presley proportions.

Author Robert Holton's work is based on the daily journal that Funeral Director Kendall kept while preparing the Elvis burial. Holton worked extensively with Robert Kendall before he passed away in 1994 to document every possible detail.

Read about how the world came to learn that Elvis Aaron Presley had died, and how thousands of mourners gathered in Memphis

Read about the media's involvement during the four days leading up to burial, and how Robert Kendall and his staff at the Memphis Funeral Home dealt with keeping the media in the dark.

Robert Holton will take you behind the legally closed doors of the embalming suite to reveal details about Elvis' embalming.

Read how Memphis Funeral Home staff members had to smuggle the coffin of Elvis into the funeral home.

Holton's work will also recall the tender moments that Kendall spent with Lisa Marie and Priscilla, who were still dealing with the loss of Elvis.

Produkt Beschreibung:

"The King Is Dead" by Robert R. Holton tells a facet of the Elvis Presley story that has never been told before. "The King," first and foremost, is not macabre, nor is it sensationalism. While it reveals never-before-published accounts of Elvis' autopsy, embalming, and burial, it does so in a very tasteful, respectful, fact-based manner.

"The King" is written from the point of view of Elvis Presley Funeral Director Robert H. Kendall. Kendall was the last man on earth to see the remains of Elvis Presley before he lowered, then sealed the lid of the $8,000 copper plated coffin. The narrative begins after Mr. Kendall arrives at the funeral home, and commences a routine day in the funeral home operation. Within hours he receives a call that he immediately believes is a crank call---however, he is unable to dismiss it. The caller, who refused to indentify herself, informed Kendall that something "big was coming down." Within hours, the world would receive the news that the undisputed King of Rock & Roll was, indeed, dead.

The rest of the book deals with Kendall's preparations to give Elvis a noble funeral. It documents how he worked with Vernon Presley, Elvis' father, on the arrangments, plus how he dealt with the media that lurked everywhere he turned. In addition, it documents security problems that were experienced, as well as the tender moments at the coffin between Kendall, Lisa Marie, and Priscilla Presley.

"The King Is Dead," is currently in motion picture development with Fox Television Studios, and plans are underway to make this book a major television event possibly as early as August 1999.

Ursprünglich sollte es ein Spielfilm werden, Veröffentlichung August 1999.
