August 15, 1970 -- Las Vegas.

Elvis moves as he performs "Polk Salad Annie" -- the first snippet shows him rapidly punching as he counts drum beats, near the start of the song.

August, 1971 -- Las Vegas.

Possibly "Polk Salad Annie," with Elvis in another unusual (and, I think, also not particularly flattering) outfit. A bit later in the show Elvis removed the vest for a more streamlined and comfortable look. These pants-and-shirt outfits were worn by Elvis now and then during 1971 and quite often during 1972.

June 23, 1973 evening show -- Uniondale, NY.

Elvis drops to a single-leg split during "Suspicious Minds." By now, Elvis was unaccountably taking it easy --at times, anyway -- and in this clip we see that he was no longer consistently doing leg stretches on both sides at this point in the song. In many ways, despite the unprecedented and triumphant success of his January satellite-broadcast Hawaiian concerts, 1973 was not the greatest year for Elvis and sometimes his stage efforts seemed to lack the exuberance that was more apparent during 1972 and, indeed, would be again during 1974.

August, 1974 -- Las Vegas.

Another karate demo from what looks like another show's rendition of "If You Talk In Your Sleep."

August 18, 1975 opening show -- Las Vegas.

Elvis goes nuts on "Polk Salad Annie," giving a particularly action-packed version that includes rapid spins, fast and wide hand and arm motions, and kicks. This physical exuberance and spirit, far more apparent than at any time since 1972 or even 1971, was characteristic of Elvis at this stage but would soon be -- for the most part -- something of a memory.

June 5, 1976 -- Atlanta, GA.

Elvis, back on stage at the Omni, was by now at a physical low. The crowd was as wild as ever, and Elvis' power and vocal control was -- if anything -- even more apparent at this stage of his life, but it's obvious that he was physically depleted or, perhaps, finally acquiescing once and for all to the knowledge that he did not have to work particularly hard to drive the crowd wild. All that he had to do was show up, an amazing fact but one that was detrimental to his continued development and one that removed any but the bare vestige of challenge from his live performing schedule. Elvis may even still be alive if he'd taken much of 1976 off and worked on getting himself into shape and interested again. Here Elvis does a split during "Polk Salad Annie," ending the song with a jump, a slow kick, and some arm movements. Yes, he was still cool, and still able to move (and flexible enough to still perform the leg stretch properly), but compare this version with that of the August 18, 1975 show and it's obvious that Elvis was somewhat in cruise mode by now. The truth is, with his very real and varied health problems, Elvis was probably hurting more now than ever before.
